Teeth scaling is a regular dental operation that cleans or scrapes away plaque and tartar deposits that accumulate on teeth. While plaque is a sticky, soft film that forms on teeth and contains millions of bacteria, which can eventually lead to gum diseases and tooth decay, tartar is a harder form of plaque that forms if plaque is not cleaned properly.
The dentist will clean the plaque off the tooth’s gum line and smooth it so that the gums can reattach to it. Teeth scaling keeps the tooth cavity-free and healthy for a longer period of time.
In most cases, the teeth scaling procedure can be performed in a single visit. The entire procedure will take almost an hour to finish. If there is additional plaque growth, it may take 2 to 3 hours to complete.
